Cakes by Eboni
I have always really loved baking shows;Cake Boss,The Great British Bake Off, and Cupcake Wars were some of my all-time favorites. The problem with all those shows is that, despite watching the whole baking process, I never got to try any of the delicious results!Watching Eboni skillfully create her baking masterpieces was a joy, and I got to eat a TON of yummy dessert!!! The chocolate chip cookies were my favorite and the cake and cupcakes were splendid as well. Eboni herself has a beautiful heart and that really came through in her video and in her desserts. I felt honored to try the result of all her hard work and to even try my hand at it. Decorating a cupcake myself really gave me admiration for Eboni’s perfectly decorated desserts! —Augusta Ambrose ‘21
I have a major sweet tooth and was extremely excited about our Cakes by Eboni night. It definitely did not disappoint with both flavors and execution. I thoroughly enjoyed learning not only how she got into baking, but also her journey to the successful business she has today and she will hopefully expand to a storefront in the coming years. Every time I watch Cake Boss I’m jealous of the way they frost cupcakes and have always wanted to try as it seems so easy and relaxing. My dream was finally fulfilled and it was actually a lot harder and more painstaking than you would think it would be. I ended up getting frosting everywhere by the time we were done, but my cupcake didn’t look half bad, adorned with a green frosting smiley face. I learned a ton about the different piping techniques and tips you can use when frosting both a cake or a cupcake. To top this wonderful night off, we had an amazing cake that was BLM themed and truly a cake masterpiece. It was also delightful, with a dark chocolate filling and buttercream frosting. — Delia Fillippone ‘21
One of the things that I admired most about Eboni was her drive to succeed in life. She knew from such a young age that baking was her passion, and her perseverance through culinary school and starting her own business are inspiring and show through her products. The cookies were perfectly golden-brown, with lots of chocolate chips and the prominent smell of cocoa powder. The cake was moist, rich in chocolate flavor and meticulously decorated with frosting in the shape of the continent of Africa. My favorite was the strawberry cupcake due to the contrast between the sweet frosting and the sour taste of the fresh strawberries baked into the muffin. -Jamie Shipman ‘21
Last night the Culinary Arts Club gathered for another delicious meeting hosted by Cakes by Eboni. Here we not only tasted the most amazing cookies and cakes but also listened to Eboni’s story and how she became the baker she is today. She has always had an interest in baking but was able to prove those who didn’t believe in her wrong and create something very special and successful. In addition to hearing her back story, we were able to enjoy a cake-making and frosting tutorial and see the various techniques that Eboni uses. Baking is definitely harder than it looks because you have to make sure you measure everything perfectly and don’t leave an ingredient out! After watching her frost the cupcakes we were able to play around with the piping bag and try frosting on our own. Aside from tasting the delicious strawberry shortcake, the chocolate chip cookies, and chocolate cake, this was my favorite part because we were able to put what we learned to use. I was extremely impressed by Eboni’s skill and her spunk and ability to preserve is definitely the secret to her success! —Julia Sisk ’21
